VISITOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (MyKAD)

In the past, it was very difficult to keep an accurate record of visitors to your facilities. In many instances, the visitors may deposit their NRIC documents with the security or reception in exchange for a visitor pass. The visitor will collect back their documents and return the visitor pass at the end of the visit. Many have questioned the validity of the company to keep the NRIC document of visitors as only Police and Immigration has the authority to do so. This resulted in many companies merely filling in some particulars of the visitors into a record book without verifying the authenticity of the identity of the visitor. Information is incomplete and in many cases illegible. Many company's visitors passes are not returned as a result.

The MyKAD now offers a solution to overcome this problem. As at the end of 2005, 16.8 millions (out of 18 million) Malaysian have either converted or applied for MyKAD. This translates to 93% which is high enough for us to consider implementing system leverage on the benefits of MyKAD for open-ended application.

MyKAD
The MyKAD (My denotes Malaysia, Kad denotes Kad Akuan Diri or "Personal Identification card' in English) is the multi-purpose smart identity card introduced by Malaysia. The card was officially launched on September 5, 2001 with a 32K chip. In November 2002, the 64K chip was introduced. MyKAD is regarded as the world's first multi-purpose smart identity card. A MyKAD is issued & carried as soon as the holder reaches the age of 12.

Every MyKAD carries a unique 12 digit number. The first 6 digits indicate the date of birth (YYMMDD). The second 2 digits represent the place of birth of the holder, i.e. the states (0-13), the federal territories (14-17) or the country of origin and the last group of 4 digits (###G) is a serial number in an unidentified pattern, with the last digit (G) shows an odd number for a male, while an even number is given for a female.

In addition to personal identification, the MyKAD has a smart chip which can be used for additional applications such as CASH Card, Travel Document, Drive's License, e-Commerce, built-in Touch 'n Go to name a few.

Today, security to your facilities can be greater enhanced with the installation of a Visitor Management System. The visitors register themselves on arrival at the reception counter. A MyKAD reader retrieves the information of the visitors and the information is kept on the database of the Visitor Management System. The MyKAD is returned to the visitors upon registration. If a visitor pass is now issued to the Visitor, the movement of the Visitor in the facilities can also be tracked.
